Basic Network Components

In this post we'll see some basic network components which are present in a network and here we go:
1. HOSTS:
Host is a generic name for most end-user devices which are used to send or receive user information(data). Examples of hosts are desktop PCs, network attached printers. A host has an IP address.
2. Shared Peripherals:
These devices do not communicate directly on a network. These devices remain attached to their hosts and perform their functions. Examples of these type of devices are cameras, locally attached printers, and scanners.
3. Networking Devices:
These are the devices which connects two or more hosts together so as to make a network. These devices move and control network traffic. Examples of networking devices are Hubs, Switches, Routers.
4. Networking Media:
This provide a medium using which a communication can take place in a network, i.e. provides connection between networking devices and hosts. Networking media can be Wired or Wireless.

Fig: Showing basic network components.

In fig : Local Printer, webcam and scanner are shared peripheral devices.
PC, laptop, server and network printer are Hosts.
Hub, switch are Network devices.
Wires are the Networking media.

These are the basic components of a network and i think its enough for this post.

I'll be right back soon...:)
STAY TUNED!!!!
